Medical Students, Residents and Family Physicians Policy Pitch Research Contest

Theme: Translating Family and Community Medicine Research into Policy

Objective:
This competition aims to engage medical students, trainees and family physicians in policy-oriented discussions by challenging them to present research findings relevant to family and community medicine in a compelling and actionable manner. It provides a platform to bridge the gap between research and policymaking by encouraging students to articulate how their work can influence healthcare policies and community health programs.

Eligibility:

● Open to medical students, FCM trainees and practitioners
● Participants must be the principal author or co-author of an original research study.
● The research must focus on family and community medicine, and primary care. including but not limited to:
   ○ Primary care innovations
   ○ Health systems strengthening
   ○ Social determinants of health
   ○ Planetary health and environmental health
   ○ Community-based interventions
   ○ Health equity and social accountability

Competition Format:
● Top 15 research papers (5 each category) will be selected for the final pitch competition.
● Each finalist will deliver a 3-minute pitch summarizing their research, focusing on its policy implications.
● One (1) slide may be used to support the presentation.
● The competition will take place during the WONCA APR 2026 Conference.
● A panel of experts from academia, healthcare, and policymaking will serve as judges.

Prizes:
1. For Medical Students and Trainee Track (March 25)
     1st Place:             $ 250
     2nd Place:           $ 200
     3rd Place – 5th:   $ 150
   ● Bursary to cover for conference registration for MEDICAL STUDENTS
   ● Certificate to be awarded during the closing ceremonies
   ● Publication in the PAFP Journal or partner academic platforms

2. For the Professional Track
      1st Place           $ 300
      2nd Place         $ 250
      3rd Place 5th    $ 200
   ● Certificate to be awarded during the closing ceremonies
