TOPIC THREADS
1. Primary care innovations: This covers novel or improved approaches in delivering primary healthcare to overcome changes in clinical practice models, integration of digital or health technologies, and redesign of service systems that enhance access, quality, efficiency, and patient-centeredness in care.
2. Health systems strengthening: This covers strategies, programs, and initiatives that enhance the responsiveness, and sustainability of health systems through contributions from educational institutions, training programs, and special interest groups in family medicine, especially in advancing the role of family doctors in a health care system. Special considerations are given to initiatives in enhancing the educational continuum of family medicine education – basic medical education, residency training, fellowship training and continuing professional education to cultivate a culture of service, leadership, and lifelong learning rooted in care for families and communities.
3. Social determinants of health: This covers how family doctors address the non-medical factors—such as income, educational systems, environment, and social inclusion—that influence individual and community health outcomes, both in clinical care services and population health strategies.
4. Planetary health and environmental health: This area encompasses the interconnection between human health and the health of the planet, addressing how environmental change, climate crisis, disasters and ecological sustainability influence primary care practice and WONCA member organizations’ functions and advocacies.
5. Family-based care interventions: These are health interventions designed to support health and wellbeing within the family unit, recognizing the shared health behaviors, caregiving roles, and genetic and social environments that influence outcomes across generations. This can also cover the care-models across nations that makes the family as the unit of care of the discipline, practice and research.
6. Community-based care interventions: This can be any innovative or traditional interventions in enabling better health outcomes in the community. This can include but not limited to models of Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC).
7. Health equity and social accountability: Health equity encompasses any practice model that enables family practice to increase access to inclusive health care services. Social accountability encompasses educational models in basic medical education, residency training, and continuing professional development (CPD) in family medicine and primary care that are fit-for-purpose and responsive to the health system model and specific population needs.
